China-Laos Railway carries over 530,000 passenger trips during National Day holiday

(ECNS) -- The China-Laos Railway carried more than 530,000 passenger trips during China's National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to 7, including over 467,000 on the Chinese section, China Railway Kunming Group Co. said Thursday. 

The railway operated 28 round-trip international passenger trains between Kunming and Vientiane, carrying more than 6,700 cross-border passengers.

Yunnan Province's railway network handled 3.414 million passenger trips during the holiday, an increase of 11.8% year on year. On Oct. 1, single-day passenger traffic exceeded 616,000, setting a new record.

To meet demand, China Railway Kunming Group added 386 temporary passenger trains and increased capacity on popular interprovincial and local routes.

It also organized ethnic cultural performances aboard trains and at major stations, while upgrading trains equipped with market-style carriages to help farmers transport and sell local produce.
