(ECNS) -- The Youyi-Baoqing Railway in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province officially launched trial operation on Monday, following comprehensive track renewal and station track upgrading works. The renovation has further consolidated the key freight corridor that transports grain from the Sanjiang Plain to domestic markets nationwide.
Stretching approximately 60 kilometers, the railway was first put into service in 1998. It connects major grain-producing zones across the Sanjiang Plain and serves as a vital logistics link between the region’s commodity grain bases and consumer markets throughout China.
Widely recognized as one of the country’s major commodity grain production bases, the Sanjiang Plain yields soybeans, corn and rice. It consistently ranks among China’s top regions in terms of total grain output and inter-regional grain shipments.
The upgrade project focused on reinforcing the railway’s track structure and optimizing station layouts. Notably, construction proceeded smoothly without disrupting regular grain transportation services, despite harsh local conditions including frigid temperatures, seasonally frozen ground and rainy summers.
