China held a massive military parade in central Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of its victory in World War II, pledging the country's commitment to peaceful development in a world still fraught with turbulence and uncertainties.
This was the second time since 2015 that China has held a military parade to commemorate the hard-won victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The advanced armaments put on display included unmanned intelligence and counter-unmanned equipment, hypersonic missiles, directed-energy weapons, electronic jamming systems, and strategic weaponry capable of global strikes.
Representatives of people who had supported China's WWII fight, or their family members -- from countries such as Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada -- were invited to the event.

China on Friday released the fourth list of newly designated memorial facilities and historical sites to commemorate the Chinese people's 14-year arduous war against Japanese aggression, honoring the contributions of overseas Chinese and international anti-fascist forces.
The list includes 34 national-level memorial facilities and sites dedicated to the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, along with the fourth batch of 43 renowned heroes, martyrs and heroic groups, according to a press conference.
4. China trials visa-free entry policy for Russian citizens
China will trial a 30-day visa-free travel policy for citizens of Russia from September 15, 2025, to September 14, 2026, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.
Russian citizens with ordinary passports can travel to China for business, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends, and in transit for up to 30 days, the ministry's spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing in Beijing.

Official data shows that as of June, maternity insurance covered 253 million people, with cumulative expenditures from the fund surpassing 438 billion yuan ($68 billion).
7. Chinese scientists confirm Mars has a solid inner core
Chinese scientists, working with international collaborators, have for the first time confirmed the existence of a solid inner core inside Mars.
The discovery, led by Professors Sun Daoyuan and Mao Zhu from the University of Science and Technology of China, was based on in-depth analysis of seismic data recorded by NASA's InSight lander. Their study found that Mars harbors a solid core with a radius of about 600 kilometers.
According to the team, the core is mainly composed of a crystalline iron-nickel alloy enriched with light elements, which sheds new light on the planet's internal structure and evolution.

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Thursday that it has imposed anti-circumvention measures on imports of certain cut-off shifted single-mode optical fiber products originating from the United States, effective immediately.
