(ECNS) -- The U.S. is debt-laden both at home and abroad with its numerous wrongdoings in respecting and protecting human rights, said Zhao Lijian, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, on Wednesday.

Zhao made the remarks at a press conference to fight back the unreasonable attack from the U.S. on China’s political system and human rights condition in the 2021 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released by the U.S. on Tuesday.

The Chinese people can tell better than others how the human rights situation in China is and the international community has long come to a conclusion about China’s governance, said Zhao, adding that such facts cannot possibly be denied by a report or the remarks of certain people.

The U.S. uses this annual report to smear and denigrate China and other places in the world, in an attempt to style itself as a “judge” and “role model” on human rights, which has revealed its hypocrisy and double standards, said the spokesperson, citing examples of U.S.’ wrongdoings at home and abroad to violate human rights.

Zhao pointed out that domestic human rights protection is an empty promise the U.S. has never fulfilled by citing a series of facts, for example, with the most advanced medical equipment and technology in the world, the U.S. has the largest number of infection and death of COVID-19; the U.S. seeks political manipulation and instigates the “lab-leak” theory, resulting in the frequent anti-Asian hate crimes; the pervasive gun violence, denial of justice in law enforcement and prisoner abuse have left the American people living in hear and worry about their security.

The spokesperson also criticized the U.S. behaviors in human rights beyond the country, for instance, the subversion and wars launched by the U.S. have forced people away from their homeland, including more than 20 million refugees and migrants in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria alone; the so-called “counter-terrorism” wars waged by the U.S. have claimed over 900,000 lives; the U.S.’ military operations in Afghanistan not only took the lives of over 100,000 people, but also looted the $7 billion live-saving money of the Afghan people.

At last, the spokesperson called for the U.S. to immediately stop making irresponsible remarks, attacking and smearing other countries’ human rights conditions, but do something to improve its own human rights situation and promote the international human rights cause.
