First Int'l Research Center of Big Data for SDGs opens in Beijing

(ECNS) -- The International Research Center of Big Data for UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was officially unveiled in Beijing on Monday.

It is a new platform for scientists around the world to take part in and promote the fruit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The center has five missions: to develop and build the platform, to monitor and evaluate the index of sustainable development, to develop and operate satellites related to sustainable development, to build a think tank promoting sustainable development, and to provide training and education for developing countries.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, congratulated the launch of the center , saying it "has significant and wide influence around the globe, and will promote the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda."

"We will spare no efforts to develop the center and, in order to build a communication platform for colleagues from all circles,” said Zhang Tao, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at the opening ceremony. 

"The Center will provide technological support for both China and the United Nations to implement the UN 2030 Agenda," explained Guo Huadong, director of the center and a CAS member.
