(ECNS)-- A male staffer at a kindergarten in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, was caught urinating in the drinking water of young female teachers at the school,Yangtze Evening Post said on Thursday.

Li, a 26-year-old female teacher at Dongsheng Art Kindergarten in the city's Xinpu district, is one of the victims.

Li said she first noticed a strange taste and odor in the water in her metal cup.

The smell of urine was detected in her water last November when she came back to the office after outdoor activities with her students, she added.

Li thought the strange odor was part of the metallic taste of contaminants in the water.

However, the smell lingered in Li's cup even after she washed it several times, while at the same time, another teacher made similar complaints.

"We all attributed the taste to contaminants in water, and didn't notice any abnormalities until a teacher who uses a transparent glass said she found her water was yellowish, with an offensive odor," Li said.

To figure out what happened, a teacher surnamed Xu hid her smartphone with a video camera in the office when all teachers were out of the room.

"All of us were shocked when we saw what was recorded by the phone：A male staffer at the kindergarten came into the empty office, and then peed into our cups!"

The man surnamed Gao is a 50-year-old staffer in charge of material procurement for the kindergarten.

"How can the man, our colleague, do such a sick thing to us? He must be a psychopath to target female teachers," Li said.

Li said four teachers, including herself, became victims in the case.

"I am the oldest of the four. The other three teachers are only 23 years old."

Local police said since Gao's behavior didn't constitute a crime, they couldn't arrest him, but an investigation is underway.

If Gao is found to be carrying any infectious diseases, he will be charged with crimes against public security, according to a police officer.

The four teachers were sent to the hospital for exams, and received 2,000 yuan ($322) from the school as compensation.
