(ECNS) – Beijing's Party Secretary Guo Jinlong said at a press conference that the capital is determined to push out industries that attract a large floating population, in order to control the size of its population, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Guo said Beijing must take comprehensive measures to control its rapidly growing population. Controlling population and construction scale in the center of the city is a priority, and surplus people can be dispersed from the overcrowded center to newly built areas and neighboring regions, Guo added.

Guo also stressed enforcing the demolition of illegal buildings, standardizing the management of renting, and introducing the residence permit system.

Guo made the statement at the 5th Plenary Session of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, held on March 1 and 2.

The plenary session generally is held once a year. However, four sessions have been held since last November, topics of which included "urban disease," "comprehensive reform" and "upholding the capital's strategic orientation."
