Beijing (CNS) -- Beijing is aiming to realize comprehensive registration of city residents within three years, regardless of their nationality or their hukou's city status (China's household registration system), the Municipal Public Security Bureau said on Sunday.

Data collection in municipal buildings of all sorts was started on November 19, compiling information on people that reside or work in Beijing, and conducted by community police and other certificated officials, revealed the authority.

To aid census-takers, temporary doorplates will be attached to buildings that lack clear identification.

The census is one step in the governmental plan to improve public services and enhance social security. A well established database will promote management efficiency at monitoring population flows and keeping pertinent services ahead of the changes.

A pilot population registration program was conducted in late September and provided the knowledge to support a wider application.
