Toronto (CNS) - Canada's export volume of natural resources to China rose sharply from 32 million USD in 2001 to 834 million USD in 2010, and the export volume so far in 2011 is already beyond the 2010 record.

Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Oliver, anticipates that Canada will soon be considered a major supplier of metal, minerals, energy and timber to China.

China is Canada's second largest trading partner as well being an important emerging market for the country's timber exports, said Oliver. Timber shipments to China from Canada have quintupled since 2007, directly providing over a thousand jobs for Canadians, he added.

Meanwhile, Canada's western province of British Columbia has approved two mineral projects funded by Chinese merchants. A total of 1.36 billion USD will be spent on the Gething Coal Mine by Kailuan Group, Shougang Group and Canadian Dehua International Mines Group, which is expected to create 6,700 jobs. The second is a mining project jointly launched with 0.5 billion USD from backers Shandong Feicheng Mining Group and Canadian Kailuan Dehua International Mines Group, reported Ming Pao on November 10.
