Yantai (CNS) – "Dear suspects on the run, winter is coming, come home and surrender to court for leniency. We look forward to your messages," reads a post on Weibo, a Chinese microblog, by the police in Yantai, east China's Shandong Province, on November 8.

Two suspects have surrendered to the police since the post showed up on Weibo, said Sun Fei, an official of Yantai Public Security Bureau, on November 9.

The bureau started using Weibo in February. It has posted more than 5,000 messages and attracted 340,000 followers, said Sun, who is in charge of posting on Weibo.

The microblog has helped the police solve cases, and provided information about household registration, international travelling and transportation for the public, added Sun.

The Yantai police have set up a group Weibo account, which is connected with the 110 emergency line. Officers will be on duty 24 hours a day, answering questions on Weibo.
