Beijing (CNS) -- About 105 residents in Beijing were diagnosed with cancer every day in 2010. From 2007, malignant tumors have been the cause of one-fourth of the deaths in the capital, according to the latest report by the Beijing Institute for Cancer Research.

The morbidity of cancer remains at a high level despite advanced diagnosis and treatment techniques, claimed Dean Ji Jiafu of the Peking University Cancer Hospital on the 35th anniversary of the hospital's establishment. The older one's age, the higher the chance of cancer is. Most cases of cancer were recorded between 75 and 85 years of age.

Lung and breast cancers are the two biggest killers for males and females, respectively, the report shows.

From 2000 to 2009, the morbidity rate of lung cancer increased by 56.35% from 38.79 to 60.65 per 100,000. The morbidity rate of breast cancer climbed by 127.98%, from 29.99 to 68.37 per 100,000 during the same period. A sharp hike happened after the age of 35 and gradually evened out from 45 to 75.

Professor Li Pingping, head of the report team, attributed the cause of this trend to smoking, pollution, and excessive food. For women, late marriage and childbirth, work tension, fierce competition, a disorderly life, and worsening environment have seriously affected their quality of life and physical conditions.

Both experts urged more cancer detection to curb the situation. Early discovery has contributed to a recovery rate of 65%. While limited to the current detection system, most cancers can't be detected during early phases and have reached middle or late stages when discovered.

Professor Ji mentioned the pioneering trial of his hospital on a professional detection regime, which is supposed to accurately diagnose and cure cancers assisted with enhanced scientific promotion to the public.
