Shanghai (CNS) -- Landmarks in central Shanghai's Huangpu District, such as the Bund, Nanjing Road, and Yu Garden, will be included in the newly released district five-year plan, according to the first district representative assembly on September 22.

The five-year plan also fixed the financial industry as the core industry, and presented a blueprint of "a belt, two streets, and five function areas."

"A belt" refers to the financial zone along the Bund, which will be focused on asset management, capital operation, and financial services. "Two streets" are Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road, which will be developed into a world-class business area. "Five function areas" include the People's Park Public Cultural and Commercial Zone, the Xintiandi International High-end Commercial Zone, the Yu Garden Cultural Tourism Zone, the Expo Riverside Cultural Exhibition Zone, and the Dapu Bridge Comprehensive Business Zone.

Huangpu District covers an area of 20.5 square kilometers and holds 801,000 permanent residents among all 909,000 household registrations. By the end of the five-year period, it will be transformed into a multifunctional area which is finance-oriented and diversified with business, culture, and tourism capacities, towards the goal of a yearly 9% government income growth and a yearly 12% taxation income hike.
