Over 1,000 Kung Fu fans gather in Shantou

Shantou (CNS)--On July 17, the first "Deng's Herbal Tea Cup Kung Fu Competition" closed after two days of contests. Many kung fu schools from Guangdong Province gathered in Shantou. More than 1,600 contestants from France, Hong Kong, Sichuan, and elsewhere exhibited their skills.

This is the biggest competition ever of Chaoshan Kung Fu. Over 100 teams attended nearly 3000 contests of different styles and with various instruments and weapons. The contestants ranged from 4 to 80 years old.

Henry from France was a popular star with his Li Style Chinese Boxing. "I was born and raised in Paris. I came here especially for the competition. I loved martial arts from the moment I saw it on TV when I was a kid," said Henry in excitement. "This big competition has involved a lot of forms of martial arts and participants. It is also beneficial to physical health."

The Li Style Chinese Boxing Henry performed is one form of Hakka Boxing, originating from Meixian County in Guangdong during the Qing Dynasty.

This competition is also qualified to grade kung fu levels of the contestants, as requested by the Guangdong Wushu Association.
