Shanghai(CNS)--The US master glass artist Steven Weinberg brought the fruit of 35-years of his labor to the Shanghai Museum of Glass. This is his first exhibition in China and it will last from July 6 to October 6.

Born in 1954, Weinberg is a globally recognized master of glass art. His innovative method of glass art creation has been adopted worldwide. He has won numerous prizes, including the Rhode Island Art Prize, the Young Americans: Clay/Glass golden prize, and a prize of honor from the World Glass Now Exhibition held by the Japanese Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art.

"The exhibition held in Shanghai is the first time that Weinberg has held an individual art show here," said Zhang Lin, chairwomen of the Shanghai Museum of Glass. The exhibition has collected 26 pieces of his most representative works at different stages in his career since 1976, including Journey – the Dream Boat, Pyramid, and a series of glass sketches he has been working on recently.

Though this is his first exhibition in China, it is not his first visit, as he had previously given glass lectures here. In a visit to China in 2005, he happened to see an embroidered Tibetan silk painting, or thangka. The incredibly beautiful patterns impressed him greatly and contributed to the creation of one of his representative works, Mandala.

During his visit this time, Weinberg expects to meet Chinese glass artists and discover potential inspirations for glass art development. It is to his belief that more and more Chinese will fall in love with this art. With more capital flowing into the Chinese glass art industry, “the future of glass art anticipates China," said Weinberg.

On July 6, the first day of the exhibition, many people in the field of glass art and other arts came to see his work. "Admiration for him has led us here, and Weinberg was very kind to the Chinese students," said Zheng Wenqing, teacher at the China Academy of Art. "We are very lucky to have the opportunity to appreciate his masterpieces."
