China's ministry of commerce sets goals to boost growth of e-commerce

The Commerce Ministry has set out three main development goals for the e-commerce sector in the next few years.

By 2020, Chinese authorities hope to have e-commerce trade volumes hit 40 trillion yuan, online retail sales of 10 trillion yuan and about 50 million people involved in the industry.

Qian Fangli from China's Ministry of Commerce said e-commerce will be integrated into economic activities of all sectors to help promote the establishment of global market of e-commerce. The development of the industry could become a key engine driving growth. It also helps create jobs and improve people's livelihood.

Online retail sales through the first 9 months of this year hit 34 trillion yuan, reprenting growth of some 26 percent.
