Chinese drone makers are showing models that can stay in the air longer, operate in harsh environments and offer more versatility at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai to cash in on a potential of higher profit margins.

Shenyang-based SIASUN Robot and Automation Co showcases its latest models for pesticide spraying, featuring automatic route setup and warning when volumes are running low.

Shenzhen-based DJI Innovation Technology Co, the world's biggest consumer drone maker, plans more commercial drones from next year, where it sees an expanding market and decreasing government regulation.

Universities, including the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, are researching new models for industrial drones.

At the fair, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Institute of NUAA displays a long-distance drone capable of staying aloft for 20 hours and flying at up to 180 kilometers per hour.
