Alibaba Group's payment affiliate Alipay aims to collaborate with as many as 1 million overseas merchants within three years to better serve China's outbound travelers.

Alipay hopes to leverage its cloud computing and data analytics capabilities to help overseas airports, department stores and restaurants in providing enhanced services to Chinese consumers.

The first batch of Alipay's overseas collaborators includes merchants in Singapore, South Korea's payment service provider Korea Information & Communications Co, and Japanese financial services group Orix Corp.

Alipay aims to help overseas businesses gain easier access to over 450 million of its users, said Sabrina Peng, vice president of its international business unit.
