China's Internet industry is suffering from a shortage of professional expertise due to surging demand created by the national Internet Plus strategy and booming O2O (online to offline) sector, LinkedIn said yesterday in a report.

The country needs six categories of professionals urgently in its dot-com industry — research engineer, product manager, human resource manager, marketing and promotion officers, operation managers and data analysis experts, said LinkedIn, a business networking service.

"Data analysts are needed in new sectors like O2O and online finance with huge volume of data," said Ye Xiaomin, analyst of LinkedIn China. "They require skills covering maths, accounting and computer."

There is a trend for professionals in telecommunications, finance and retail sectors to move to the Internet industry, industry officials said.

Shanghai is luring IT experts to help transform into an innovative-driven economy under the Internet Plus policy.
