Beijing has decided to abort license-plate lottery for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the latest allocation of car license plates.

This means a total of 17-thousand individual applicants and 15-hundred unit applicants have been licensed to buy NEVs this time.

The move is a response to the requirement of the State Council, which asked local authorities to lift purchase restrictions and remove traffic controls for NEVs last month.

Beijing began to launch allocations of NEV license plates last year.

The number of NEV license plates to be allocated has exceeded the number of applicants since January.

Only 40 percent applicants obtained NEV license plates via the license-plate lottery in the last allocation of car license plates.

Beijing has planned to allocate 600-thousand license plates for small cars from 2014 to 2017.
