Metro Cash & Carry China said it aimed to expand in e-commerce and food delivery sectors after teaming up with two logistics companies.
Metro will work with Huohe Shuanghui Logistics Investment Co and Shanghai Dah Chong Hong Logistics Co to expand food delivery coverage and capability, company officials said today.
The two companies will provide cold-chain logistics and temperature controlled warehousing across China's coastal and inland areas.
Jeroen de Groot, president of Metro China, said the company has been working with Shequ001.com, an online community supermarket, to deliver mainly fresh and processed food.
It is also in talks with third party online platforms such as Tmall.com and JD.com for deeper operation.
"We are confident that enhanced capabilities will support our expansion, as well as to facilitate our multi-channel strategy in China by serving e-commerce and food service delivery channels in addition to Cash & Carry stores," de Groot said.
