Competition for jobs in China's state-owned enterprises heated up in the third quarter as they cut hiring while the Internet sector became the largest recruiter, recruitment service provider Zhaopin.com said in a report yesterday.
Each opening in the SOEs attracted an average of 41.6 applications from job seekers, about 10 more than the market average, Zhaopin.com said. On the other hand, each job opening at private companies received an average of 27 applications.
An earlier report by the website showed the number of job openings by private firms rose 31 percent year on year while SOEs cut demand by 29 percent in the third quarter.
The Internet and e-commerce sectors were the most active in hiring followed by real estate companies, the report said.
In Shanghai, competition was keenest in energy, mining and petrochemical industries traditionally dominated by SOEs, according to the report.
