Shanghai stocks edged up in the morning session with energy shares leading the gain after China called for efforts to revolutionize energy production and consumption habits.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.18 percent to 2,074.53 points. Turnover was 39.3 billion yuan (US$6.3 billion) by the noon break.
President Xi Jinping said last Friday that China should reduce wasteful consumption, push for energy conservation and boost alternative energy supply, Xinhua News Agency reported.
