The China Railway Corporation or CRC is going to see its freight transport services expanded with one of its subsidiaries China Railway Express, being broken up.
It will keep some of its assets, but its freight trains will be handed over to the CRC.
The move marks the start of the long-anticipated reform of the rail system following the establishment of the CRC in March.
After the changes, China Railway Express' main business will be express delivery, meaning it will pick up parcels from clients and take them to train stations.
For more on the reform of the railway system here in China, Paul James earlier talked with Mike Bastin, Visiting Professor at China's University of International Business and Economics.
