China Mobile confirmed that its vice president and executive director Lu Xiangdong was detained by the Jilin Procuratorate.

China Mobile confirmed that its vice president and executive director Lu Xiangdong was detained by the Jilin Procuratorate.

China Mobile announced its vice president and executive director Lu Xiangdong is currently under investigation by Jilin provincial authorities.

Caixin learned from multiple sources that Lu was detained in Beijing by the Jilin Procuratorate on the evening of February 28.

Sources say the fact that Lu's case was handed over to Jilin provincial authorities by the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and not to party disciplinary authorities, indicates provincial authorities have enough evidence to convict Lu in court trials.

Since early 2010, China Mobile saw 11 major corruption cases involving its executives, the most high-profile of which was Zhang Chunjiang, vice president and party secretary of the company. In 2009, Zhang was arrested by Hebei provincial authorities. A Hebei intermediate court found Zhang guilty of accepting 7.46 million yuan in bribes.

Lu began his career at China Mobile as director of the Mobile and Telecommunications division in Fujian Province. In 2010, Lu was moved to the data and fee collection division.

In April 2011, Ma Li, former vice president of data and fee collection division, was detained on suspicion of personal misconduct.
