A plaintiff group demanding apology and compensation over wartime bombing of China's Chongqing has lost its second trial in a lawsuit against the Japanese government, People's Daily reported.

The Tokyo High Court gave the verdict on November 14 upholding the results in the first trial which acknowledged the historic facts of the Chongqing bombing during WWII but refused to apologize or offer compensation.

On February 25, 2015, the Tokyo District Court rejected the appeal of a total of 188 plaintiffs in the first trial of the case and ruled that the lawsuit fees must be undertaken by the plaintiffs.

Members of the plaintiff group have been protesting the unfair verdict after the first trial. Some elderly members of the group have since died.

Between 1938 and 1944, Japanese warplanes indiscriminately bombed Chongqing, then China's capital, and nearby cities killing and injuring more than 32,000 people.

The bombing, along with the Nanjing Massacre, are viewed as the most horrific atrocities committed by Japanese troops during the war.
