A restaurant in Shandong Province has become popular for providing free lunches to sanitation workers, thepaper.cn reported.

Wangluyuan Home Cooking restaurant in the city of Jining provides home style dishes, soup and rice for eight sanitation workers every day since its opening in February.

Kong Derong, a 65-year-old sanitation worker, said he used to go home to cook by himself and rush back to work after eating, now he can go directly to the restaurant.

The sanitation workers are provided with special seats, staff members serve them with respect and also ask their opinions of the dishes.

Yan Wei, the owner of the restaurant, is a long-time volunteer looking after sanitation workers. He hopes more restaurants can provide free lunches for sanitation workers, and more people can pay attention to the general working conditions of sanitation workers.

Yan said the free lunches are affordable for him, and he will keep doing this as long as the restaurant is open.
