RoboMasters: The Animated Series hits TV screens across China and Japan today, October 13, 2017.

The series is a unique collaboration between Japanese animation companies, DandeLion Animation Studio, GONZO, and DJI-Innovation, a high profile Chinese drone manufacturer.

Dubbed into both Japanese and Chinese, RoboMasters premiers in the two countries on the same day.

The animation is based on the real life RoboMaster competition, which tests the skills of aspiring young engineers, and is sponsored by the innovation company DJI.

The story is set in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and tells how a group of young college students pursue their dreams of making robots and participating in the robot competition. It's the first time a real Chinese university has appeared in an animation.

Compared to the large and exaggerated images of robots in traditional animations, the characters in RoboMasters are more like those found in real life. When designing the appearance of robots, the animators chose to make them friendly and attractive, while taking care to consider the practical operability of every component.
