A hiker has been rescued from the area worst affected by Tuesday's 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Sichuan Province, 60 hours after the initial seismic shock, reports the Beijing Youth Daily.
50 year old, Pan Xiaozhen from Wenzhou City in Zhejiang Province had just started an adventure holiday, hiking and canoeing across the waters in Jiuzhaigou county.
At 19:21, on August 8, Pan posted a message on Wechat Moments that she had arrived at the Long Lake scenic zone, saying she had "finally reached the internet society".
Just two hours later, the quake hit Jiuzhaigou.
The experienced adventurer's niece told reporters that Pan often traveled alone, relying on her survival skills. "If it hadn't been for the earthquake, we wouldn't have worried about her safety." After 24 hours with no news, they knew something was wrong.
According to Pan, she had camped alone overnight in the Long Lake area, and was found by staff from the local Protection Station the next day.
They stay together for safety inside the protection station, relying on biscuits and water held in storage. Attempts to leave the area failed due to the aftershocks which caused rockfalls.
Without power to charge their mobiles, and a poor signal in the remote area, the group lost contact with the outside world until being found on Thursday by a rescue team made up of local police.
Due to adverse weather conditions, the group stayed a further night in the area, and were evacuated on Friday.
