A total of 1,110 drivers have been caught on Shanghai's traffic police cameras since March for not giving way to vehicles or pedestrians when turning at crossroads, Shanghai traffic police said yesterday.
Police send violation notices after watching the footage, which shows the plate numbers of cars.
Vehicles turning at crossroads must give way to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians crossing the road, whether there are traffic lights or not.
Offenders are punished with three demerits on their license and a 200 yuan ($30) fine.
The first of such cameras was installed at the crossroads of Eshan Road and Nanquan Road in Pudong, followed by 10 others in the same district.
