A 2017 large-scale matchmaking party was held on June 26, 2017 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, with around 5,000 single people from various industries taking part.
As the sponsor, the Zhejiang provincial branch of the Communist Youth League says it hopes to create more opportunities for single adults to find a relationship or potential mates.
In recent years, the number of single adults in China has increased rapidly. According to the sixth nationwide population census, the percentage of single women over 30-years old was 2.47%.
"We hope that we can use our organizational advantages to offer more opportunities for single adults to find a relationship. We're sure we can provide better opportunities than dating websites, as people who register for our event can't lie or use fake information," said an official with the Zhejiang provincial branch of the Communist Youth League.
As part of the matchmaking party, the information of each guest was displayed on a wall, organized by different categories, such as occupation, age, etc. There was also a QR code on each person's card so they could contact each other.
An "8 minutes dating" speed-dating session also provided a fast, fun and comfortable way for single adults to meet one another. Those who found someone they liked didn't need to worry about losing out on a potential mate, as each person had a special code which a match-maker would use to help contact the person after the event was over.
