Passengers taking trains from Shanghai to Hong Kong and Guangdong Province will be subject to additional security checks before getting on the trains from this Sunday due to the forthcoming 20th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong.
Shanghai railway police said yesterday the measure will be lifted on July 2, the day after the anniversary.
There are 15 trains leaving for Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai cities in Guangdong from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, three trains leaving for Guangdong and Kowloon in Hong Kong from Shanghai Railway Station and two trains leaving for Shenzhen from Shanghai South Railway Station.
Meanwhile, more security measures will be taken during the period at Shanghai's railway terminals.
Police at Shanghai South Railway Station said they have stepped up checks on checked-in luggage, while police at Shanghai Railway Station said they have heightened security measures to the highest level.
