A young Chinese couple has flown a domestic plane across the Atlantic from Fortaleza, Brazil to the Cape Verde Islands in Africa.
It took Zhang Xinyu and his wife Liang Hong nine hours to make the voyage in an AVIC HAIG-built Harbin Y-12 aircraft on April 9, 2017.
According to the original design, the Harbin Y-12 aircraft began as a development of the Harbin Y-11 air frame, and the furthest distance the aircraft could fly was only 1,340 kilometres.
After modification, the latest design of the Y-12 has been greatly improved, and includes new wings, new landing gear and more powerful engines. These changes on the Y-12 assisted the couple to complete the 2,700 kilometre voyage and it also set a new distance record for the Y-12 aircraft.
