"jimmy'S Subway," a musical about a blind girl's adventure on the subway, will be presented at the SAIC Shanghai Culture Square on March 31 as part of its 2017 Chinese Original Musical Season.

It will be a new version by Mr Wing Theater Company which created the first production based on Taiwan artist Jimmy's picture book "The Sound of Colors" in 2003, and a second version in 2012.

The blind girl's adventure underground is amazing as it is a mixture of reality and her imagination.

Apart from about 20 poetic songs telling her mind, multimedia is widely used to realize the dream-like world of Jimmy's book.

"The subway is quite like a life journey, in which we meet different people and leave, get frustrated in something, while succeeding in some others," says director Li Huanxuan.

"We are much looking forward to the destination. Yet at the same time, we hesitate to proceed for the fear of unknown."

Apart from the leading roles in "The Sound of Colors," audiences may also find familiar characters in Jimmy's other plays, just as ordinary people passing by in the busy subway stations every day.

The musical was well received when premiered in Taipei in January.

Jimmy says something that he intentionally hid and blurred in his book was picked out and displayed in the beautiful story. He was touched.

"We were challenged whether the production is a musical due to the none-typical format. But its vitality in the past 13 years proves everything," says Li.

"There should not be a fixed mode for Chinese original musical. Personalized productions also work as long as they connect the audiences right."

About 20,000 low-price tickets of 80 yuan ($11.60) are available for the seven productions of the original musical season.
