A man posing for a selfie in Chongqing has fallen from a cliff. The incident was caught on video which has since gone viral. The man suffered only minor injuries.
The video has made the man an overnight sensation online, though many netizens have criticized the man, saying his showing was responsible for his fall.
The incident happened on Jigongshan Mountain in Shapingba District on March 17. The man in the video is surnamed Du, a citizen of Chongqing.
Mr. Du was interviewed by cqbntv.cn on March 19, saying that he was a little sad about some comments by netizens online.
Mr. Du said that he has been doing free climbing for four years and his friends are all in the habit of taking photos after climbing to the top of the mountains.
He said the "thrilling stunts" he performed on Jigongshan Mountain were quite common among outdoor climbers and not about "being cool."
He said that he accidentally slid over the cliff and fell about ten meters and suffered minor injuries.
He expressed relief that he was not more seriously injured and said that free climbing is a very professional and dangerous outdoor activity. Amateurs should be cautious when partaking in this activity.
