Four scooters for children sold at a toy store inside Longemont Shopping Mall in Changning District were sealed by the city's quality watchdog over the weekend for further tests after they were allegedly found to have potential safety hazards.

The scooters sealed were sold at an outlet in the mall of American toy retailer Toys "R" Us. They were made by Guangzhou Linglibao Toys Co with the model number LLB-5097.

The scooter had circular holes between 5 and 12 millimeters, which might have caused children's fingers to get stuck, said Wu Xuetao, an inspection official with the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau.

In addition, the thickness of the metal tube of the scooter was 1.28 millimeters, fell short of the 1.58mm required by the national standard, officials found. The thinner-than-required tube might cut children's fingers, said Wu.

E-business shopping sites were the major sales platform of children's scooters in China, and most scooters for children on the market were produced in Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces, the bureau said.
