Commuters will be able to refill their public transport cards from convenience stores such as Family Mart at 50 additional Metro stations from today.
But the new locations will only accept cash, the Metro operator said yesterday.
The move is to help passengers who have trouble using automatic machines, which only accept Alipay and UnionPay cards.
Personal services are being phased out at Metro service counters because it takes too much staff time.
By the start of the year, staff at 100 Metro stations had stopped topping up cards, but 155 machines had been added. The card company has also set up its own centers at 28 Metro stations.
