Shanghai's two airports reported a 10.21 percent surge in passenger volume over the seven-day Spring Festival holiday.
Pudong International Airport received more than 1.3 million passengers and Hongqiao International Airport had about 700,000 passengers, customs officials said.
The Pudong airport reported a record high of nearly 700,000 inbound and outbound passengers over the holiday — a year-on-year increase of 3 percent. The busiest day was January 26, when more than 120,000 passengers arrived and departed Shanghai from the airport, almost matching the daily record set during last year's chunyun — the annual Spring Festival travel rush period.
Nearly 155,000 inbound passengers, more than twice as many as last year, used the self-service customs clearance channel at the Pudong airport between January 13 and last Thursday, covering the first half of the 40-day chunyun.
