Education experts have called for legislation on campus bullying and violence at a conference held on Saturday at East China Normal University.
Ren Haitao, an associate professor of the university, pointed out that campus bullying was different from campus violence.
"Campus bullying involves only people inside schools and the victims are students, while campus violence can be conducted by people from outside of schools," he said.
"Campus bullying usually repeats with fixed victims and causes more hidden and lingering psychological trauma."
Qian Zaijian, a professor from Nanjing Normal University, said increasing online campus bullying should also be brought to the forefront besides traditional campus bullying, such as oral and physical abuse, as well as bullying via relationships.
