The Foreign Ministry spokesman urged the Japanese government to be prudent when it comes to the deployment of the U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, on its territory.

Japanese media reports say the country's defense department has established a special commission to discuss the import of new armaments from the U.S., including the THAAD, and a missile defense plan scheduled to be worked out in the summer of next year.

In response, Geng Shuang noted that due to historical reasons, Japan's moves in security areas have sparked concern among its neighbors and members of the international community.

He urged the Japanese side to play a constructive role in maintaining regional stability.
