The Chinese Foreign Ministry says its diplomats are trying to verify details with South Korean authorities over a reported collision between a Chinese fishing boat and the South Korean coastal guard.

According to South Korean media reports, the collision took place last Friday in South Korean waters and occurred when the South Korean coastal guard attempted to board the Chinese fishing boat. The South Korean speedboat sank in the incident.

South Korea has launched a search for the Chinese boat, summoned the Chinese Consul-General in South Korea, and lodged protests.

In response, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang urged related South Korean departments to handle the investigation in an objective manner and from a perspective of bilateral relations.
