Water and power supplies are yet to be fully restored to southeast China's Fujian Province after it was hit hard by super Typhoon Meranti last week.

In the city of Quanzhou, workers continued to struggle to restore power supplies.

A worker Chen Jianbin said that repair workers from all over the province have come to support them.

"Fujian Electric Power Company dispatched repair workers from all over the province to support us. Quanzhou City sent 608 workers and Longyan, Fuzhou and Sanming companies also sent workers here. Many of them are technicians with lifting machinery and power vehicles."

In the town of Huyang, typhoon cut off electric power and water supplies in all 17 villages there.

So far, power supply has been restored in more than 90 percent of the households.

Water supplies to the town are yet to be restored.

In the city of Xiamen, 70 percent of the grid is back to normal, after the typhoon disrupted power supply to 620,000 households there.

Xiamen City government on Sunday announced that primary schools and kindergartens as well as private schools will be closed for two or three days to help lessen traffic pressure.
