Shanghai's metro operator will add more trains during the Shanghai Tourism Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. Extra safety measures will be taken, such as closing some exits at busy stations.

This year's tourism festival starts tomorrow and runs to October 6, while the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday is from Thursday (the day of the festival) to September 17. According to the metro operator Shanghai Shentong Group, Line 2 and Line 10's Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station will be under heavy pressure on September 17 with travelers returning to the city by train.

To meet the increased demand, more trains will be added along Line 10's section between Hongqiao Railway Station and Jiangwan Stadium Station from noon till the Metro closes on September 17. Trains will run between Hongqiao Railway Station and Longxi Road Station every seven and a half minutes from the current 10 minutes during the festival period.

Next Wednesday, the last working day before Mid-Autumn Festival, will also be a busy day for the metro network with some 10.6 million passengers expected to use it for shopping and entertainment. The operator said back-up trains would be on standby if needed.

Tomorrow, the opening day of the Shanghai Tourism Festival, extra station staff and maintenance workers will be on duty at major transfer stations.

To improve safety for the opening parade in downtown area, Line 10's Huangpi Road S. Station and Shaanxi Road S. Station will close some exits from 6pm till the end of operation tomorrow. Line 13's Huaihai Road M. Station will also take measures to cope with the extra traffic.
