In the wake of the terror attacks in Paris on Nov. 13, which killed 130, China called for a united front to fight terrorism. "China is also a victim of terrorism," Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi remarked at a G20 summit in Turkey on Nov. 15.

Chinese citizens also become victim of terrorist attacks abroad (3 Chinese citizens killed in Mali hotel siege, China confirms death of hostage held by IS).

Acknowledging the growing threat of global and domestic terrorist activities, the PLA has enhanced capability to address various security threats.

A total of 11,937 tips, 72 of which were related to terrorism cases, have been reported to police by residents in Beijing's Xicheng district in the first half of this year. Most of these residents were aged 58 to 65, and women take up 70 percent of the total number, gaining the group the nickname Xicheng dama.

BJCYQZ (Chinese pinyin acronym for residents in Beijing's Chaoyang district)

China's Internet users have nicknamed residents of Beijing's Chaoyang district as the "fifth largest intelligence agency" in the world. The nickname came after a number of high-profile Chinese celebrities were found using drugs, all based on tips provided by residents in Chaoyang.

Beijing police Thursday publishes cartoon images of Xicheng dama (middle-aged women of Xicheng district) (L) and residents of Chaoyang district (R) on its official account on Sina Weibo.
