Beijing has won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach has made the announcement in Kuala Lumpur on Friday afternoon.

This mean Beijing will be the first city to host both Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

In a recorded video presented to the IOC before the vote, Chinese President Xi Jinping says letting Beijing host the Winter Olympics will put a new emphasis on winter sports in China.

Beijing successfully hosted the Summer Olympics in 2008. The capital promises a sustainable and prudent Winter Olympics by taking full advantages of existing venues.
