The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states made a joint call on Friday for resolute opposition to any distortion of the results of the Second World War.[Special coverage]

"We urge resolute opposition to any distortion of WWII results ... as well as any attempt to forget the tragic lesson for all mankind," leaders of the SCO countries, namely China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, said in a statement after holding a summit in the Russian city of Ufa.

The statement paid tribute to the soldiers and civilians, fallen and alive, who made contribution to the victory against fascism and militarism in WWII.

In the statement, the leaders said the friendship forged in the war, along with the memory of fighting shoulder to shoulder, is the common asset of the SCO members, which also serves as a moral guideline for the struggle for justice and security in the world.

The leaders also spoke highly of the Chinese people's courage in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, noting that the Chinese made great sacrifice and contribution to the world's anti-fascism war.

Recalling the catastrophic WWII, the leaders vowed to make all-out efforts to prevent the rise of new, dangerous anti-human sentiment.

The SCO leaders reiterated their commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, calling for a bigger role of the United Nations.

The SCO member states will continue, on the basis of the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity and pursuit of common development, to cooperate with all countries and international organizations concerned to achieve enduring peace, development and progress of the world, according to the statement.
