By the end of this year, more than 300 public places in Beijing will offer free WiFi to visitors.

These public places will include frequently visited areas in Beijing, such as Xidan North Street, Olympic Park and Yanxi Lake.

People can log onto the public WiFi by registering a free "My Beijing" account. A user enters his or her mobile phone number into the "My Beijing" log-in page; the user will then receive an account number and password on his or her phone within one minute.

The public WiFi can support simple mobile data activity, like surfing the internet via a mobile browser, looking online for information, or writing and receiving emails or digital messages. Downloading movies or playing online games is reportedly not supported by the public WiFi.

"My Beijing" WiFi providers say that every mobile phone logging onto the public WiFi service will enjoy a 2M bandwidth and be allowed an accumulative total of two free hours of WiFi use per day.
