Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is calling for better government oversight regarding "left behind" children.
This comes after four siblings in the city of Bijie, southwest China's Guizhou Province, died from drinking pesticide on Tuesday.
The Premier's comments were made public through a statement issued online by China's central government through its official website.
An investigation conducted by the Guizhou Provincial Civil Administration Department revealed that the children--whose respective ages range between 5 and 13--were left alone by their two parents, who traveled to Guangdong in search of work.
It is unclear whether the children drank the pesticide deliberately, or if it was an accident.
According to the statement, Premier Li urged the relevant departments to strengthen the supervision of temporary aid systems by local governments and rectify their work in order to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
