Two police officers, including a senior one, were killed by gunshot Tuesday in north China's Hebei province.

Xue Yongqing was the political commissar of the public security bureau in Suning county.

The violent case occurred Tuesday morning, when Xue and other police officers tried to arrest suspect Liu Shuangrui in a village.

Police said Liu suffered from mental illness and he shot other villagers near his home with a shotgun.

The shooting incident also resulted in the deaths of two farmers and injuries of five others.

The suspect has been killed by police.
