Two new bars have opened near The Bund with huge terraces that are ripe for sunshine drinking, and especially timely given the current blue, blue Shanghai skies.
Waitan Yard is on the third floor at 166 Sichuan Zhong Lu. The huge outdoor area - which includes an al fresco bar - has comfortable lounge seating and a friendly, chilled out vibe. Plants line the walls and the vista of surrounding buildings makes a pleasant change from the standard Bund view.
The menu consists of a small set of craft cocktails, craft beers and Argentinean and Italian wines. The terrace is open from 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and from midday on the weekends. Make the most of the cracking happy hour from 5-7pm, Tuesday through Friday, where you can buy-one-get-one-free on beer, house wine and select cocktails (mojitos on our visit). Perfect for some post-work boozing.
And so you don't get too sozzled, they also have a selection of food on the menu, including blue cheese stuffed olives (30RMB) and fried chicken served with hand cut crisps (65RMB).
If you're after a more classic Bund view, not too far away at 7 Yanan Lu is new cocktail bar Shen. With a large outdoor area, their terrace has been garnering attention over the past couple of weeks. The menu includes cocktails (from 88RMB), wine and Champagne, as well as some simple sharing plates. The simple design, relatively affordable prices and great views over The Bund mean that this place probably won't stay quiet for long.
Keep an eye out for full reviews in our June issue - available from the end of May.
