Chinese authorities have canceled all spring climbing on the northern slopes of Mount Qomolangma or Mount Everest in Tibet following Saturday's earthquake in Nepal.
The region's sports bureau says more than 400 mountaineers from over 20 countries have descended to safe places with no casualties reported.
Bureau officials have traveled to the base camp to persuade the mountaineers to abort their climbs.
Saturday's earthquake in Nepal triggered a series of avalanches on the world's highest peak, killing at least 18 climbers and guides on the Nepali side of the mountain.
One Chinese climber was among the dead and another is missing.
